HARK!
I hear…prices blowin’ up…
And not in a good way.
National, state and local economies are being super-heated by inflation, and prices of almost everything EXCEPT WAGES running wild.
And yet…
There is still plenty of FREE ENTERTAINMENT right here in HARK Valley.
Let’s look at some FREE SHOWS this weekend and early next week:
The Lost Leaf, downtown's mecca for music and art, is always free!!
The Lost Leaf on Friday hosts “Collisions,” improvisations and original compositions from Natalie Gallatin, Ray Lebert, Vincent Thiefain and Jacob Eary.
Pijama Piyama blasts out crazy music at the Lost Leaf Saturday night. This band calls itself “An Imaginary collective of Sonoran desert degenerate scums that have dreamt up an auditorial backdrop for their cacti deity.”
Sounds crazy, right? But they play some really pretty desert-inspired music, like Fuego Se Va….well, it starts pretty, before devolving into a trippy mess. Another PP song, No Me Hagas Las Cosquillas, is like Frank Zappa on mescaline.
But wait–there’s more at the Lost Leaf this weekend: Sunday night, Tracers headlines, with Dreamboat and The Double Cross. Tracers is an electronic rock band featuring brothers Chris and Conner Vidano on guitar and Dylan Rainbolt on drums. Bored during the COVID lockdowns, they formed an indie-electronic band.
Back in Seattle in the early 2000s, we called this “shoe-gazer rock.” Nice low-level noise, Tracers. Check them out here or here.
Not to be undercut, Tempe's Yucca Tap Room–a great dive bar with a stage and pinball/game room–has a string of FREE shows this weekend into next week:

The Valley Bar has FREE DJ music, all weekend long:
Spinning at 6 p.m. Friday is DJ MyGodComplex, who gets down with hip hop, R&B, funk and soul. (He’s also co-host of Basement Tapes Thursday nights on RadioPhoenix.org.)
He’s followed later Friday night by DJ Ashwagandha, who’s into hip hop, R&B and neo soul.
The Valley Bar’s Rose Room features DJ STLB3, who spins funk, soul, jazz and world music.
Once again, it's .... FREE FREE FREE!!!
