Music by the bushels this weekend around Phoenix
HARK!
I hear …the jams…
So much to do this weekend, around HARK Valley.
A look at some favorite places:
The Rebel Lounge has a shuffled lineup, with a postponement (The Warning) and cancelation (Tilian) leaving Vigil of War (pictured, above) headlining Friday night; Alicia Virgil sings and plays bass in this L.A.-based, speed-the-beats rock band. The Rebel shifts gears Saturday night, with battle-rapper Eptos Uno (350,000 followers on his Facebook page).
***Note: like many venues around Phoenix, the Rebel requires a vaccination card or negative COVID test for admission.**
It's a home-cookin' show at The Nash Friday night, with “Power Trio” of Mike Kocour (organ), Stan Sorenson (guitar) joining drummer and club namesake Lewis Nash.
Flip Side featuring Anita Benavidez flips the script at the Nash Saturday night, playing "a wide variety of jazz with some R&B and soul mixed in."
Local talent Sandra Bassett sings jazz standards, the blues, Motown, you name it Friday night at Westside Blues & Jazz, 17045 N 59th Ave, Glendale. Cover charge $20; two-drink minimum at this club.

Saturday night, Big Pete Pearson gives a singing lecture on the blues, backed by his big band of Scotty Spenner cranking lead guitar, Jim Robertson strumming rhythm guitar, Curt Arndt plucking bass and Claire Griese hitting the drums.
Westside Blues & Jazz has a “no vax card, no problem!” policy, offering free on-site testing if you don’t have a card or recent negative test.
Vax or test results are also required at all-ages venue the Trunk Space, where the Jon Larkin Quartet plays free-form jazz Friday night with a $10 cover. Local punk band Okinawa Plane Crash plays the likes of “Golden Shower” with Bullet Babe and other bands on the Trunk Space bill Saturday night.

Grateful Dead worshippers Jerry’s Middle Finger have a two-night gig at the Last Exit Live, Friday and Saturday night.
Another Phoenix rock club, the Lost Leaf, is probably closing at the end of March. Until someone comes to the rescue or it dies, the downtown venue will continue to offer no-cover charges. Friday night, Sarah June, Schpilt and Gnarwhal Jrz make noise.
Breaking Trail hits the Lost Leaf stage Saturday night.
Rising American star Sierra Ferrell visits the Crescent Ballroom Friday night; but if you don’t have a ticket, it’s no go as this one is sold out. The Groove Theory jams hip hop and jazz at the Crescent Saturday night; it’s a free show.
Up north in the wild, wild west of Cave Creek, Janey’s Coffeehouse hosts the usual busy schedule at its superior outdoor venue this weekend. The T Bonez hits the blues Friday night, with Joe Saturday morning (music starts at 10 a.m.), Deal James at 2 p.m. and Audio Farm at 7:30 Saturday night.
Up the dusty road from Janey’s, Cave Creek music ranch Harold’s Corral has a country dance party Friday night, with music by the Silver Sage Band.
Fan Halen—can you guess who they cover?—rocks out at Harold’s Saturday night.
