HARK!
I hear….a boing
Like the Crocodile Cafe is in Seattle, and like CBGB in New York and The Decade in Pittsburgh once were, the Rebel Lounge is a springboard for local bands.
This weekend, three Valley bands with big dreams play the Rebel.
Popsiclestickairport is excited about playing its first headlining gig here Saturday night (click here for tickets), on a busy bill that includes Wah-Wah, The Sols, Bethany Home and Proper Pet.
The five-piece indie poppers from Gilbert will play the likes of Feel Better and Telephone–which shines the band’s talent. If you like swirling guitars, this band’s for you.
Jane N’ the Jungle return to the Rebel Sunday night (click for tickets).
Back in mid-June, HARK Valley reviewed the band’s show at the same venue.
Jane N’ the Jungle plugs into the Rebel Lounge speakers, tunes up and launches into 10 powerful songs– with razor-sharp musicians revolving around the gravitational pull of Jordan White, shining like a strawberry moon.
White has sworn her allegiance to Manson/Garbage, but it becomes obvious she leapfrogs to Siouxsie Sioux. Even so, she has her own style, vocally and physically–combining with her band’s skilled musicianship to make Jane N’ the Jungle poised to break out of the Valley….
At the Rebel Lounge, White was a mosh of glam and grunge, with a kitty kat hairdo, a glittery mask of makeup, skintight pants and a cut-off top showing her ripped six-pack midriff.
The music is swirling and loud, with longtime members Brian Dellis ripping away at a V guitar (band photos above and below by Noah Shepard)….
Monday night, another Valley act with potential to break out hits the Rebel, when Veronica Everheart performs. (Click for tickets)
Earlier this year, HARK Valley pondered if Everheart is headed for stardom ….
Veronica Fedri, who performs as Veronica Everheart, also just turned 20. She has a long way to go, but her versatility, seeming ease and talent make her the potential Billie Eilish of HARK Valley.
It should be noted Veronica Everheart (photo below courtesy @_benthrasher) sounds nothing like Billie Eilish, that occasionally over-the-top emotional diva.
By contrast, Everheart is cool and edgy. Maybe I’m still stuck in that era, but to me, she sounds like a solid Seattle band, circa 1995.
Her YouTube channel has a terrific, very-grungy live video of her song “New Year's Eve, 1965,” recorded in July at the Rebel Lounge.
She has only recorded a handful of songs, but they are generally terrific, with gritty guitars, riveting vocals and evocative, occasionally whimsical lyrics.
