The Darts look for bull's eye
HARK!
I hear some hustlers…
HARK Valley favorites The Darts are garage-punk-slamming up and down the West Coast, and hustling up support for a new recording:
“We are crowdfunding our new record and the prizes are amazing collectibles! Any help would be so much appreciated!"
Which goes to show: Even if you’re signed to a respected label (Alternative Tentacles, in this case), that doesn’t mean people are throwing money at you right and left.
It’s hard to describe this all-female outfit any better than they self-talk: “If Elvira and Wednesday Adams consumed the flesh of man, drank shots of snake venom, started a band for the bride of Frankenstein’s bachelorette bash, that's us.”
Speaking of snake venom...
Forget all the glammy cr@p in Old Town Scottsdale: The Rusty Spur is keeping it real, old school, like back in the “Did you just spit at my horse? Cause I’m low on bullets and don’t want to have to shoot you in the foot” days.
The Rusty Spur is as crowded as a sorority party hot tub, so don’t go there if you are still gingerly working your way out of the bubble.
For others who like to have to muscle up to the bar for a beer and listen to country bands blaring, this is the spot: “Scottsdale's oldest bar + last real cowboy saloon, Rusty Spur is celebrating 70 yrs! Located in the heart of Old Town Scottsdale, this authentic Old West saloon offers rustic charm, great food, live country music 7 days + 7 nights a week & a full bar..”
The history here is awesome: “The Rusty Spur Saloon sits in a registered historic landmark that was the Farmer’s Bank of Scottsdale. The building was constructed in 1921 and eventually renovated in 1951 to become what is known today as Rusty Spur Saloon. The bulk of the money and ledgers may be gone, but the vault is now filled with beer and liquor (the valuables)!"
At another non-glammy place up north, the Roadhouse in Cave Creek is bringing out the hardware July 23, hosting a 9-piece funk band Dr. Delicious as the headliner, with Mr. I and the Chacons Band also jamming.
It’s the Cave Creek Summer Of Music Concert ...This place is a combo beer-lover’s-paradise (endless taps), sports bar with a gazillion screens (some outdoors in the misters) and solid live music venue. https://www.facebook.com/HideawayRoadhouse.
Down the hill a ways, Local Jonny’s is kicking up its live music: This weekends music at Local Jonny's we invite a newcomer Sam Meric to the back patio, as well as Seth Loveless for Saturday night!
Sign of a solid dive bar: Celebrating new seats.
Eddie's Tavern https://www.facebook.com/eddiestavernofficial/
Hidee Ho Neighbors! 😎 come check out the new barstools at Eddie's!!🤩🤩 Kelly, Serena and Maggie are slinging cocktails
It might not be the place to launch your career with a break-through concert, but it’s a place to DRINK AND THINK ABOUT launching your career: “Eddie's Tavern has been a staple of the community since it was founded as a bar for veterans in the 1950s by Eddie McIntyre. We are a quaint and popular bar to all who frequent our tavern and are notorious for making customers for life! While we consider ourselves to be a patriotic place for veterans to relax, we encourage our clientele to be as varied as possible. You certainly don't have to be a vet to drink here!
*Our jukebox acts as a photo booth to take pictures of our customers as they make their musical selections from our WIDELY extensive musical catalog.”
OK, now if you need to sharpen your chops for paying gigs, or are just looking to jam-for-fun, CheezHeadz in Peoria is the spot: "Open Mic Night" every Wednesday. Chris Yak will host the event and provide the PA. Just bring your instument, your talent, and your own mic. CheezHeadz hosts live music on other nights as well, so come out and support live music and enjoy great food and drinks. You can message Chris in the comments or through messenger to secure a slot in the rotation or to work out any special requests. We will be doing a 2-4 song rotation depending on the turnout so everyone as an opportunity to perform. Everyone will also be encouraged to stick around to play again if we rotate around again.
Local Jonny’s also opens up the microphone on Wednesday nights.
Here’s a way to beat the heat and dig some music at HARK Valley North:
Saturday Night July 10th at Cuppers Coffee House Patio in Prescott
Or, answer the call even further up the road in Sedona, where, courtesy of Arizona Music Events & Shows: “a musical doubleheader at Bella Vita Ristorante https://www.facebook.com/bellavitasedona this weekend with the ever-popular Sammy Davis and troubadour Dan Vega performing Friday and Saturday night on the restaurant’s outside patio stage.
"On Friday, July 9 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. consummate entertainer Sammy Davis weaves his musical magic, performing songs that everyone loves to listen to and dance to that we have grown to love through the years. When he hits the stage it’s all out charisma and performance, as he dances, prances, whirls and twirls through the classics he brings to life with and every performance."
Hell yeah!
