HARK!
I hear ... "lemme see your ID and vax card"...
Even without a Sunday, Aug. 22 show at the Van Buren from the great alt-country diva (who coulda been a comedian, brutally funny) Neko Case, it's been a mega week in Hark Valley.
Downtown Mesa kicked to life with its two key venues, the Mesa Amphitheatre and Nile Theater, plugging in speakers; both had been dark for more than a year. Great beer places in the few blocks between the Nile and Amp, by the way ...
The Nile is part of other big news this week: "The Arizona independent venues signing this letter will require proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test result to attend a concert or event by or before September 20 2021."
The clubs that will require vax or test results:
191 Toole, Tucson
Celebrity Theatre, Phoenix
Club Congress * (Inside Only), Tucson
Crescent Ballroom, Phoenix
Fox Tucson Theatre, Tucson
The Marquee Theatre, Tempe
The Nash, Phoenix
The Nile Theater, Mesa
The Orpheum Theater, Flagstaff
The Rialto Theatre, Tucson
The Rebel Lounge, Phoenix
The Rhythm Room, Phoenix
Valley Bar, Phoenix
Walter Where?House, Phoenix
West Side Blues Club * (Vaccine Only), Glendale
"I won't be going here any more because of this," one young lady commented, when one of the clubs posted the news.
#personal choice .... Personally, I'd get a booster shot every day (OK, every month) if I could.
Anyway, this weekend at the Nile: Amigo the Devil.
A big BOOOOOOO! for Veronica Everheart -- who is devastating Hark Valley by moving to New Jersey. Her last Phx show this week was at the Rebel Lounge.
Drum solo for the Yucca Taproom, which celebrated its first anniversary this month -- you made it, Yucca! What a year to launch. The Tempe spot has live music multiple nights a week, looking like it's going to be the go-to spot for young bands to build audiences. Open Mic night every Monday.
